HOSPITAL CHARGES

Charges and potential out-of-pocket cost related to medical services vary from facility to facility for many complex reasons. The Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) require hospitals to maintain a list of standard charges, commonly known as the chargemaster, and to publish the charges on their websites. These charges do not reflect what patients generally pay for services they receive or represent what the hospital is actually paid in most circumstances.
